The University of Canterbury Investment Society is a student-led, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving financial literacy and fostering a passion for investing. Our mission is to educate the next generation on financial literacy to address inequality.

member Requirements

What do Investment Society Members do?

There are no specific requirements to join The Investment Society other than being a student at the University of Canterbury. Membership is free and gives you full access to our yearly calendar of events, including practical workshops, academic tutorials, competitions, industry networking, and social events.

Market Memos is our weekly video series that breaks down key market movements into short, easy-to-understand insights, keeping students informed and engaged. The response has been massive, driving over 50,000 views and 3,500+ likes across our platforms.W aim to provide students with the foundational knowledge required to make decisions now that ultimately result in a more financially assured future.

Recruitment Events

We connect students with professionals through speaker panels, networking events, and employer presentations. These sessions bridge the gap between university and the finance industry, helping connect our members directly with leading employers to explore career pathways and internships.

INvestor Basics

Our hands-on Investor Basics workshops are designed to equip you with practical investing and personal finance skills, helping you build confidence and long-term financial literacy.

Technical Workshops

We want to give you tools that translate directly to the workplace. We run dedicated Excel and Bloomberg workshops to help our members upskill and stand out.

Industry Leaders

Learn directly from the pros. We host engaging speaker panels, like our popular Couch Chats and "Make it Make Cents" series, to give you invaluable life lessons and investing insights.

Every year The Investment Society hosts a number of different events from networking seminars, competitions, workshops, and social events; all aimed at giving our members the best chance to succeed in both their University studies and post-university life.
